It is just the right stuff to make people want to crash your party. Grab a stache.. and join the bash..

Bidding farwell to your twenties, and saying ‘hello!’ to your thirties is a bit of a both sweet and sour experience. All the more reason to celebrate this milestone of your life in style!

Stache Birthday Party
Grab a stache and join the bash

Last year, when Priyank Gupta turned 30, his lovely wife Tanvi planned a surprise birthday party for him. Tanvi and I were discussing themes for the party, and after ruling out Poker, Pirate, Bollywood, Retro.. we decided on planning a ‘Moustache bash’. We both thought it was something new and fun!

How do you like our stache?
My friends and I grabbed staches… Now, time to pose for the camera! #SayCheese

Tanvi headed to the Partyhunterz store in Delhi to check out the party supplies and bought moustache balloons, hangings, moustache sticks, straws and a pack of different staches for the guests.

I downloaded a few images off the internet and designed an invite on PicsArt. Tanvi prepared a sumptuous feast for the party. She also ordered a moustache theme cake.

Best part of the party was when Priyank entered his room and found his wife and his little son wearing a moustache thinking ‘what the hell is wrong with them?!’ He sure was surprised and had a memorable 30th birthday party!!

I personally don’t have a good feeling about turning 30 next year. However, I think of it as a good excuse to plan a fabulous party!! Any ideas on themes are most welcome!

Butterflies.. and all things nice!!

This one’s for the girly girls who absolutely adore the colour pink. Here are some pictures from power couple Megha and Anuj Nangia’s daughter Amaira’s first birthday party.

Sweet fam

Both Anuj and Megha like to live life kingsize and were in look out for an event planner who was in sync with their design aesthetic to plan their little girl’s special day. Created by the talented Salil Choudhary (Event planner, Khan market) the theme of this party was ‘Butterfly’.

It was a great and glamorous way to incorporate pink and lilac colour scheme in the party decor and supplies. Held at the Vivanta by Taj, Khan Market, it was certainly a posh affair!

The cake (created by ‘For the love of cake’, GK-I) was nothing short of spectacular. A chocolate cake beautifully topped with butterflies which perfectly matched the table decor and invitations. Kids got their own cupcakes with a candle to blow!

Cleverly chosen centrepieces and table settings surely helped the party to have that ‘wow’ factor. There was also a photo wall for capturing special moments with family and friends.

The birthday girl looked angelic in her dress and tiara. Generally an early sleeper, Amaira surprised everyone as she was awake till the end of the party and was surely enjoying all the attention coming her way!

Megha chose hand made chocolates for return gifts. Both the invite and the return gifts were created by the very talented Ms Anita Nangia, Anuj’s mom and Amaira’s grandmom. What sheer delight it must have been for her to contribute to her granddaughter’ first birthday party. You can check out her work at her workshop in G.K. – II.

Overall, the party looked pretty like a butterfly and all the guests were delighted! What did you think of the ‘butterfly’ theme? Do you think there are more theme options for girls than boys or is the other way around? Let me know your views in the comments below. Up next is a moustache bash! Till next week, cheerio!!

Three little pigs theme for Kabir’s 2nd B’day

Here is another post featuring our creative mom Deepa and her son Kabir. Deepa gained experience over the time and delivered a sparkling party once again. Here is more from her –

image

Theme: Like Kabir’s first birthday I once again chose one of Kabir’s favorite books : The three little pigs. He knew the story and had done a puppet show in his school Ardee , Gurgaon, so I had the props with me too.

image

Decor: Like last time, I went with minimal balloons. A lot similar to the 1st time, got a Tshirt printed with 3 pigs for Kabir. Also found a pigs cap and a cake as per the theme. I got cut outs of pigs and wolf with cardboard cut outs of 3 houses (straw, wood and bricks). I designed everything and used vendors only for execution (printing and making cutouts).

image

image

image

Puppet show : A friend of mine and myself used puppets and told the story to the kids. We sure had a blast :).

image

Activities: I had kept coloring and making pigs with the cutouts that I had made. I had kept glue and colors on each table for the kids. I thought it was a good activity as it really occupied them for hours. I had also got a play area created for kids to play as this time there were his entire class of 2 year olds from his school. So it was important to ensure two year olds are kept occupied for a few hours!

image

image

Return gifts: For return gifts, I used this NGO which makes craft items and the sale money goes to uner privileged students. So, I thought this was a very good idea instead of spending money buying meaningless toys. I got them to give me two gifts per person: one was a craft making puppets of pigs and wolf and the other was a door hanger craft with pigs. They customised this for me and sent them to me from Jaipur a couple of days before my party.

image

In my view, this was the best element of the party really and I have decided to continue this for his next bday too.

image

I also got a mesage board created for all the guests to leave their messages/ blessings for Kabir. This was a 10X10 flex which I still have.

image

image

Watch out for this space- the next year theme is Madagascar. Kabir loves this movie and he absolutely loves Marty (his best friend). Alex, Gloria and Melman 🙂 so we sure are going to have a blast this August.

image

What went wrong/Could have been better?
My personal suggestion is really to go with a tried and tested vendor even if only for tenting, (in my case). I had a very bad experience with things not landing up as I had ordered etc which adds to unwanted stress to an otherwise wonderfully planned event

1st Birthday with Caterpillar theme!

Here is a caterpillar themed 1st birthday feature by Deepa Bansal. Deepa heads marketing for India at a Diplomatic mission. She lives in Gurgaon with her husband and 2.8 months old son Kabir. She loves to read, Spend time with kids per se..love music, art and craft and doing up her home…her typical weekend is spent with close friends or at home with Kabir and hubby. They plan things around Kabir’s interest like taking him swimming, music class. Or just making crafts at home..

More from her –

As an individual I have a creative bent of mind and like doing craft and art myself. My son kabir also has this quality (thank god 🙂 so we really enjoy doing craft as a part of our daily life…so planning his bday parties has been a lot of fun for me.

His first bday

theme: the hungry caterpillar

image

As a kid, I have always read books to Kabir. This has been an integral part of his routine. One of the first  books I used to read to him was the Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carl so this was a natural choice for his fIrst bday as I wanted to do something which he relates to.

image

Kabir had already started showing interest in painting and coloring too and this theme gave me the space to plan a lot of actitvies for this bday.

We had moved to Gurgaon when he was 10 months old so we wanted to celebrate his first bday in the complex itself. We stay in Close North, Nirvana country, Gurgaon.

My husband and I were keen to use this opportunity to invite kids from our complex so Kabir has a lot of fun with kids his age.

image

Design and plan: The entire bday was planned by me. I did not use any event planner. I designed his invite myself and thankfully have a friend who works on photoshop so she convtered my design into an invite for print. I used a printer only for execution.

The invite was based image from the book itself. and the text was customised by me to read..

image

the front read: i learned to laugh and crawl
the sit and stand
now i can walk on my own ..but the fun has just begun
hungry for some fun.inch over to Kabir bday party..

look out world as I turn ONE

Decor : I personally do not like a lot of balloons ,as I feel its very common and makes it repetitive. so I only used balloons to make a caterpillar at the gate (entrance).

image

Inside I had a huge caterpillar running from wall to wall (made by me). I used paper and made fans of it with red as the head and green paper for the body. I got my printer to replicate the same in larger size for the party.

Other decor was cut outs of fruits which the caterpillar eats in the story. so huge cut outs were hung in the room.

My sis had put together a presentation with images from Kabir first year to a hired projection screen and speakers and played that before cake cutting.

image

Food: the theme was carried on to the food- I had cake with the caterpillar (obviously). Muffins were in the same theme of caterpillar too. There was food from the story: fruits, sausages,

Name tags read: on monday he ate..
tues he ate… again from the story itself.

Games: coloring butterflies and caterpillar pictures

image

Make your own caterpillar and butterfly- I had cut outs for craft which i had prepared before hand and gave glue to the kids to stick and decorate their own butterfly or make a caterpillar face/mask to wear

Photo wall: I had a big butterfly made, caterpillar body which i made at home  and a flower (cut outs) one could wear the butterly and get pics clicked or put ones head in the middle of flower and get a pic.  Wear caterpillar dress (made of chart paper) I had a string at the neck so one could hang it over the neck and it falls in front of you as a dress)

image

Post bday: I got all the cut outs home and used the caterpillar , butterfly and fruit cut outs to decorate Kabir’s room for one year…

Cups and plates for food: I got stickers printed with caterpillar images in the story and stuck on all plates as didnt get plates with this theme.

Glasses: got glasses with fruits on them so it fit with theme.

Caps: again with caterpillar image form book.

Give away bags: I made it myself at home with chart paper and satin ribbon for 80 kids  over 2 weeks time. and wrote each kids name on the bag. I made grass with crape paper on the bag for desgin and made caterpillar with ribbon and stuck on the grass.

image

Kabir’s dress: I got a caterpillar printed on a T shirt and made him wear that.

I had hired vendors only for tenting and food and printing. Overall, it was a great feeling to have done all the things with my own hands for his B’day and he sure had a blast.

Vendors: printing: Arvi printers .
Catering: Binge, Gurgaon
Tenting: little angels, Galleria, Gurgaon
