Celebrating the arrival of a baby in the family is a grand affair in India. While the traditional women-only ‘godh bharai’ is still prevalent, this Indian baby shower has gotten a new makeover in the city with an American twist.
“The regular ‘godh bharai’ ceremony has more to do with family. Friends are usually not involved in it. However, baby showers have everything to do with friends and fun. In the traditional ceremonies, the mom to be is made to wear a heavy saree, put on jewelry and sit for the customs but baby showers are different. The baby shower organised by friends involves games, activities and laughter.
Mantra events by Sagun Bhayana – one of our preferred vendors on ‘The Soirée Book’ shared photos from the baby shower of their client Priyanka Beri.
The venue was residence of the client in Punjabi bagh. The colour theme was yellow and green as it was a day function – a bit different from the usual colours of pink and blue.
The entrance was decorated with balloon arches with different kind of balloons like the polkas and foils with regular balloons. The whole garden was filled with balloon standies and flex welcoming the baby.
The client sourced the cake from Jaya Kochhar. Jaya’s cakes are a regular feature on our blog which is a good estimate of her popularity in the city.
Till next time..enjoy the summer colors of lime and yellow decor here..
Cheers !
Leena

If you’ve never come across Ipshita Chakldar, then you haven’t seen how truly gorgeous your dessert can look. No, she isn’t a world famous patissier but she is certainly one talented woman who has turned birthday cakes into a feast for one’s eyes and stomachs.
Just take a look at her work and you’d have to agree with me.
To see more of Ipshita’s artwork, visit her webpage. I, myself, can never get enough!
There’s nothing better than an adorable one year old baby giggling and enjoying a party in her honor. That was Zoya’s First Birthday Party, in a nutshell.
Special mention to her parents Shikhar and Heena Malhotra, Co-owners, Esparanza Spa, G.K. II who planned all the cute details and party favors.
How adorable is the butterfly garden theme?! From bright pink cupcakes to the multicolour balloons.. amazing cake to delicious treats..this party had it all..
I’ll now stop here and let Zoya’s mom take over.. more from the proud mommy Heena Malhotra –
” Ever since Zoya was born, I’d been mentally planning her first birthday bash. It was like an obsession for me. Searching for themes, ideas, décor and cakes – you name it, I did it all. I would constantly be pinning away inspirations and ideas on Pinterest or saving them on my computer.
After browsing for a million hours, I finally zeroed on in 2 themes – “Winter One-derland” and “Butterfly Garden”
Although Zoya’s birthday falls on Jan 15th, we decided to celebrate it on Jan 19th, as it was a Sunday and an afternoon party would be perfect according to Delhi’s crippling cold weather.
The invite was designed by my very talented sister Isha Khanna. We took a motif – a “1” made up of butterflies, and decided to use it all over the party i.e. the invitations, the table centerpieces and the décor.
The venue was Kids Kraze (Chattarpur Mandir Road). The place is very well made and beautifully done up. It has 4 halls, each with an attached outdoor area. The décor was taken care of by Sandy and Tanisha at Kids Kraze, along with inputs from me.
The cake : I had heard rave reviews about Jaya’s Cakewalk in Safdarjung Enclave, so decided to get the cake made from her. It was a 2 tier chocolate cake with white buttercream frosting, and adorned with colorful fondant butterflies and flowers.
Return Gifts : I wanted to give all the kids something meaningful and what they could utilize for a long time. I headed to Wanna Party – Malviya Nagar, and got small bags personalized for all the kids. The boys got a blue one with football motifs and their names, and the girls got a pretty pink one decorated with butterflies and flowers, to blend with the theme.
For the families, I got a pack of 6 beautifully decorated cupcakes from Eclairs – Gurgaon, which not only looked amazing, but tasted heavenly as well.
Kids activities : Kids Kraze has introduced an entirely new concept in gaming – projection games. The children had a blast! Apart from these, we also had a mini train ride, bouncy, edible tattoos and a games coordinator who would keep every one entertained.
A video I had made, incorporating all of Zoya’s memorable moments over the past one year was playing in the background so that everyone could take a glimpse into my angel’s first year.
Outfits : I got Zoya’s birthday dress custom made from Little Pixie – Mumbai. It was a lovely pink silk and sequined dress with butterfly embellishments.”
Tip : For all the mommies planning their kids’ birthdays, please browse Pinterest. Its like a goldmine!

Get ready to dive into some FUN! Summer is right around the corner, and we’ve got lots of kid-friendly, Pool Party inspiration to share with you today!
Decor: All you need is a big open space. Assemble a splash pool, throw in some bath toys and you are good to go.
Food: A barbeque is a must for a poolside party. It just adds to the whole atmosphere as the charcoal grilled meat and kebabs wafts across your backyard. It is just the right stuff to make people want to crash your party. For the little ones, have cheese and cucumber sandwiches on the table as well as plenty of finger foods such as potato fries, burger sliders, canapes and pizzettes (mini pizzas)
Drink: For the bar, have cool, light beer and fruit mocktails for the afternoon. Ensure your guests drink responsibly. For the kiddies, have loads mint and fruit coolers on the table.
Party favours: Personalised towels with kids’ names on them are very popular these days. You can find some nice ones on Little Charms’ website.
Bubble wands with a ‘thanks for coming’ note is also a good idea if you don’t have time to get customised gifts.
If you are having a beach theme, a mini beach kit (with a small bucket, shovel etc) is also a good idea for the kids.
Bidding farwell to your twenties, and saying ‘hello!’ to your thirties is a bit of a both sweet and sour experience. All the more reason to celebrate this milestone of your life in style!
Last year, when Priyank Gupta turned 30, his lovely wife Tanvi planned a surprise birthday party for him. Tanvi and I were discussing themes for the party, and after ruling out Poker, Pirate, Bollywood, Retro.. we decided on planning a ‘Moustache bash’. We both thought it was something new and fun!
Tanvi headed to the Partyhunterz store in Delhi to check out the party supplies and bought moustache balloons, hangings, moustache sticks, straws and a pack of different staches for the guests.
I downloaded a few images off the internet and designed an invite on PicsArt. Tanvi prepared a sumptuous feast for the party. She also ordered a moustache theme cake.
Best part of the party was when Priyank entered his room and found his wife and his little son wearing a moustache thinking ‘what the hell is wrong with them?!’ He sure was surprised and had a memorable 30th birthday party!!
I personally don’t have a good feeling about turning 30 next year. However, I think of it as a good excuse to plan a fabulous party!! Any ideas on themes are most welcome!
