When it comes to parties, everyone wants to throw something spectacular for their child. But with the hectic schedules, these days not many
people can afford to run the show on their own. Many parents today outsource the party planning to a vendor they can trust and leave the rest for them to manage.
In today’s post, we are featuring the ‘Pink and Purple events’. Started by Sakshi Khanna, who got into event planning after completing her post graduation in International Business. Pink & Purple Events specialize in kids’ birthdays and theme parties. They coordinate the entire party planning effort right from the theme based invitations, activities, decor to return gifts and party favours.
I interviewed Sakshi last week to know more about the latest party trends, practical party tips, imaginative ideas, decor ideas that will keep the kids coming back for more.
Here are the excerpts from the interview –
1) You have been in the business since a couple of years. What are the emerging trends in Delhi’s party scene?
There has been an increase in innovation in the kids’ theme party sector. Moreover, parents are increasingly abandoning the use of traditional decorative items such as balloon arches and are drawing inspiration from the west. These days, focus is on using pastel colours, doing up the cake table with an assortment of desserts, making the entire decor look very classy and attractive.
2) Tell us more about your design aesthetics. What is your idea of a perfect party?
My idea of a perfect party entails us in minimal elements, but still coordinating the entire thing in such a way so as to capture the essence of the party. Depending on the age group of the kids, parents prefer to customize each and every element of the decor with the theme they have chosen. Even the activities these days, revolve around a particular theme. Maintaining a balance between the decor and activities is essential, as the main aim of a kids’ birthday is to entertain the younger lot and at the same time giving the decor a ‘wow’ element which remains in the minds of the guests. A perfect party is designed to be pocket friendly, aesthetically pleasing and a complete package for pure entertainment for the young and old.
3) Despite of the increase in the lavish and big scale parties, there is still a huge demand of budget parties hosted at home. What is your basic no frills package that you can offer to those kind of clients?
We cater to all kinds of budgets- starting from home based parties to the ones that are hosted in farmhouses and 5 star hotels. Our basis aim is to do something different with each event we undertake. However, depending on the clients budget, we customise a package which revolves around a particular theme, has a few kids activities in it. As far as the decoration is concerned, we try to include elements apart from the basic cutouts and balloon decor which is done to death by every event planner.
For example, for an ice cream theme party which we had done recently, we decorated the entire hall with paper ice cream scoops which gave a very personal touch to the entire decor.
4) We have seen some very interesting and innovative invites on your Facebook page. Where do you draw inspiration from?
One of our USP’s is that we specialize in theme based invitations and return gifts. As the clients are demanding new and innovative products, we customize each and every aspect of the birthday according to the theme. We have done a lot of ‘princess theme invites’ but each invite, even though it has the same elements, is completely different from one another. Ive had an inclination for creative thinking since childhood and everything around me inspires me to experiment and make my own creations, sky is the limit :-).
5) Any tips on party planning for the readers of our blog?
I would definitely like to advise the readers to plan their kids’ birthdays, well in advance. Even though birthday events are smaller than weddings, if you plan well in advance, you can incorporate a lot of different elements in your kids’ birthdays. Also, play around with a lot of colours. Even though the demand for use of pastel shades is increasing, kids of younger age groups only relate to colours. Kids of 1-2 years cannot relate to particular cartoon characters but can definitely relate to bright colours and general themes.
6) And lastly, why did you chose the name – Pink and Purple events?
Well, frankly speaking, pink and purple are two colours which I can relate to. While thinking of a name for my start-up, I wanted to make the logo in such a way that it instantly conveys to my target audience that our company deals in kids’ birthdays and theme parties.
